Just like other injuries that affect a person’s skin, acne too leaves its scars behind as reminder of some pretty turbulent times, especially in the lives of teenagers that are a group of people most likely to be affected by acne. Two types of acne in particular can cause an acne scar and these are cystic acne as well as nodular acne, and in a few instances, acne scars can also be caused by mildly inflamed acne conditions.

Your Response

How severe or mild the acne scar turns out to be depends on the person’s response to acne and age also plays an important role in the formation of these ugly marks on your skin. As a matter of fact, when a person ages acne scars become more noticeable and prominent since the skin of an elderly person contains less collagen. In any case, an acne scar is certainly very ugly to look at and so it is necessary to take steps to prevent it and in case it does form then suitable treatments need to be tried out to get rid of the marks.

There are several types of acne scars to worry about. For one, there is the scar that is raised and secondly there is the one which is depressed thought the former occurs in people that have developed keloids which name refers to tissue growths at the site of an injury.

The depressed acne scar is more common and results because at the site of the acne condition there is less skin tissue available. In fact, the tissue gets lost as a result of the spreading of the acne within the skin and as a consequence some amount of collagen is also lost. However, even after the acne has been treated and healing has taken place, a depression will remain even while new skin grows to replace the lost one.

The depressed acne scar can further be categorized as an ice pick and a boxcar (rolling) scar. The trouble with these kinds of acne scars is that they do not fade with the passage of time and often require undergoing surgery to completely get rid of. There is nothing pleasant about an acne scar and this is why people that are affected by such scars need to know about suitable and effective acne scar removal solutions.

For a few fortunate people it is indeed possible to get rid of the scars while for others the options available are fewer and more drastic. In any case, it does mean having to visit a doctor with whom you can discuss your problem and the doctor will for their part assess your age as well as health before recommending a suitable and effective solution to the problem.
